The art of Mithila, the skill of the artisans.

About Artisan Mithila

Celebrating the rich heritage of Mithila art through sustainable practices.

Mithila Painting a Canvas of Tradition Originating from the ancient Mithila region of Bihar and Nepal, Mithila painting (also known as Madhubani art) is a vibrant tapestry of culture and devotion. Legend has it that this art form dates back to the time of the Ramayana, when King Janaka commissioned artists to capture the wedding of his daughter, Sita, to Lord Rama.

Historically practiced by women on the freshly plastered mud walls of their homes during festivals and weddings, this tradition has evolved from ephemeral wall art to a globally recognized form on handmade paper and canvas. It is more than just decoration; it is a prayer, a meditation, and a celebration of nature, portraying deities, mythology, and daily village life with reverence.
